Description

The project consisted of the construction of an extension of the existing Docklands Light Rail Line from Anning Town Station (Jubilee and DLR lines) to London City Airport, including the construction of two elevated stations on the viaduct (structural works only).

The solution was based on segmental construction (the first time this technique has been used in the UK for LRT construction), using a launching girder designed by Rizzani de Eccher.

The same launching girder was able to erect both simply supported span (SBS method) and continuous span (BC method). The peculiarity of the gantry to erect in both directions without any modification resulted in enhanced flexibility of the erection programme.
