Restoration of Fondaco dei Tedeschi historical palace in Venice, Italy.

Rizzani de Eccher and Sacaim, one of Rizzani de Eccher’s subsidiaries, were involved in the design and construction project for the restoration and functional recovery of Fondaco dei Tedeschi. The former courthouse of German tradespeople, Fondaco dei Tedeschi is one of the oldest (dating back to 1228) and most impressive Venetian palaces, located in the heart of the city, overlooking Ponte Rialto.

The plan for re-qualification and restoration was designed by Rem Koolhaas.

Conservative restoration of the monumental 12-century palace of the Procuratie Vecchie, located in the very heart of Venice, in Piazza San Marco.
The intervention repairs, reunifies and adapts the sixteenth-century structure and its complex successive modifications while integrating them with a series of new interventions to create a more coherent whole. The affected an area of 11.250 sqm, and involved the static consolidation of the existing structures. On the ground floor containment tanks were designed to protect the building against high tides and purification tanks were built. The technological systems in all the areas of the palace have been completely renovated, while the conservative restoration of the ornamental structures of considerable value was also carried out.

Reconstruction of a school building for a German language vocational school, located in Bolzano.
The structure consists of 7 floors, of which 2 underground and 5 above ground and can accommodate 900 students.
For the realization of the work, modern materials were used such as exposed concrete, glass and plasterboard. The massive use of gypsum fiber for covering both floors and walls and ceilings is unique in Europe.
The three blocks of the vocational school are connected to each other by transparent glass corridors. Centralization and good accessibility to all classes and workshops was thus ensured.

Scope of works includes the implementation of exhibition areas, modern working environments, technical areas, a 400-seat auditorium, translator booths, and a control room.

Description

Construction of a structure for the Technological Pole of the Engineering Faculty of Catania which will consist of classrooms, laboratories, studios and utility rooms and will facilitate experimental research activities in the engineering field. The intervention consists of three blocks identified with the numbers 1), 2) and 3), a concierge room and a box for the technical gas station.

Of great importance is the energy efficiency of the structure – thermal insulation of the buildings and self-production of energy with renewable resources and similar systems, such as solar thermal, photovoltaic and trigeneration production.

The interventions carried out concern the restoration and functional rehabilitation aimed at static consolidation, the recovery of all the decorative elements and the adaptation of both building and plant engineering. The palace stands on the Grand Canal, between the Rialto and San Marco, in the sestiere of Dorsoduro. Since its foundation in 1868, it has been housed in the Venetian Gothic palace of Ca’ Foscari, from which it takes its name

Adaptation of a historic building (former Pedretti Theater) to the new techniques of theatrical representation with particular attention to the stage machinery, the stage, the understage and adaptation of all systems to current legislation.
As part of the complete recovery of the property, the following works were carried out:
demolition and reconstruction of the reinforced concrete structures, demolition and reconstruction of the roof with steel beams and laminated wood reticulars, construction of the stage machine, restoration of the basement from the early 1800s with construction of the smaller hall below the theater stalls, new technological systems, restoration of the façade and installation of all the furnishings for 600 seats.

The 9-storey building, located in the center of Udine, has 2 underground levels used as parking lots for both the public and the Regional Administration’s employees, and 7 above ground levels used for office.

Design and construction of the Ducat Palace III business center, a 14-storey building located the Presnensky district in Moscow. 3 of the 14 levels accommodate an underground parking.
The palace hosts large Russian and foreign companies, as well as retail zones located on the building’s first floor and an international school.
The total area of the building is 32.000 sqm.

Execution of structural works for the construction of the Grand Mosque for Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, in Abu Dhabi.
This huge mosque, capable of accommodating over 30.000 worshippers, is be the largest mosque in the United Arab Emirates and the world’s third largest one, besides being the sixth largest religious building in the world.
The complex covers an area of more than 22.000 sqm. During the construction of the mosque’s reinforced concrete shell, 210.000 m3 of concrete and 33.000 tons of steel reinforcement were used.
The mosque is clad in marble and gold. Each of the four minarets rise to a height of 108 m, with the main dome reaching 80 m.
The exceptionally high standards throughout the construction project reflected the nation-wide significance of the Mosque, bearing the name of H.H. the President of the United Arab Emirates. The architectural design of the mosque makes it a landmark building, capable of makign a lasting impression on the worshipper: the central prayer hall, for example, measures 50×55 m, with a 33 m-high ceiling.

Construction of a multifunctional educational and business center on the basis of the NLMK recreation center with the comprehensive improvement of the adjacent territory.
The careful reconstruction of the existing building, combined with new technologies, is intended to emphasize the values of continuity and the dynamics of the company’s development. Architectural solutions increase the usable area of the building while recreating the historical outlines and the building’s elements by integrating a new closed volume of the courtyard and new floors.

The main foyer (a new double-height space) will include a multifunctional transformable hall for public events like exhibitions, conferences and lectures, that can be used as an independent isolated area or serve as additional space for especially large-scale and solemn events. Other premises include a cafe-canteen with 70 seats and auxiliary rooms, a university foyer with wardrobe and bathrooms, a concert hall with 390 seats (excluding the balcony), a concert hall’s foyer with a buffet, and university classrooms.

Description

The International School of Differdange has a capacity for 450 students and is composed of 15 classrooms, 3 special rooms, 2 workshops (wood and cook) and a cafeteria. The 3-storey building consists of two parts, a main building and a building dedicated to lessons, all on an area of approx. 55 acres.
The main building includes the main entrance, the concierge’s lodge, a covered foyer and a cafeteria. The transition between the two buildings is allowed by a staircase located in the covered foyer.
The second building includes classrooms, workshops, as well as all the premises for accommodating the administrative staff.

The project envisaged the energy optimization of the school, in respect of the ecological and economic criteria for sustainable development. The following objectives were thus met: the construction of a compact building, a good winter/summer thermal performance to minimize energy needs, the use of the structure’s thermal inertia, natural ventilation and the maximum intake of natural light, as well as the reduction of technical installations to the minimum necessary.
