Description

Design and construction of the Gran Manglar Viaduct on the Cartagena – Barranquilla Highway, including provision of labor, precast and erection equipment and engineering services.

Rizzani de Eccher was part of the Joint Venture and was in charge for design, precast and erection of the bridge “Viaducto Gran Manglar”, supported and assisted by Deal (services of design, construction engineering and supply of equipment) and Tensa (supplier of all pre and post tension material, equipment, seismic isolators and expansion joints).

Rizzani de Eccher invested in a dramatically innovative solution by developing a new engineering method that allowed the construction of the entire viaduct from above (top – down system) by totally prefabricating the segments closer to the installation area. This method significantly reduced the impact on the protected mangroves area and avoided the dredging that would have affected the environment for years, allowed local communities to continue using the swamp for fishing and agriculture, without affecting to the water flow.
